Fall is a great time to plant! When the weather gets colder, the above-ground parts of perennials die back and deciduous woody plants lose their leaves; meanwhile, underground roots are still growing for much of the winter. This gives plants a firm foundation to build upon in the spring, especially with good soil, adequate water and nutrients. We usually get more rain in the fall, which also helps plants establish. Our landscape crew can plant until the ground freezes, sometimes all the way through December depending on the year.
